From Dream to Image | A Workshop in Active Imagination

The Laboratory

In this laboratory,
dreams take form.

Interior images ask to be seen. Dreams, visions, symbols — they nourish us in secret and carry a consciousness of their own. They are guides on the path of transformation. But they require something of us: that we give them matter, form, a place where they can become visible.

Imago Somnii — the image of the dream — is a creative laboratory for individual work with images, born from my own experience of dreamwork in Jungian analysis. It was in that process that digital collage revealed itself as a privileged medium for entering into dialogue with dreams and interior images: a personal discovery that now becomes a shared practice.

Here, dream material that has already been received in the analytic space finds prolongation in the creative act. Through digital collage in Procreate, we give body to the autonomous figures the psyche presents — living images that participate in the transcendent function, mediating between conscious and unconscious.

Creation here is not oriented by aesthetics, but by symbolic intentionality. Through the cut, the composition, the fragment — the image becomes a ritual of recognition and individuation. The symbol ceases to be mere representation and becomes an active transforming process: the place where the unconscious becomes visible and consciousness is touched by the soul.

Why Collage

Working from fragments
that already exist.

Collage is an artistic practice that receives fragments of images and arranges them into new forms, releasing them from their original context so that unexpected meanings and stories can emerge. It does not require drawing, painting, or prior artistic training. It asks only that you allow the images to move — that you follow what draws you, what repels you, what stops you without knowing why.

This is precisely what makes collage a privileged medium for symbolic work. The choice of fragment, the cut, the placement — these are not aesthetic decisions. They are acts of recognition. The psyche selects before the mind understands. What you reach for in a folder of images, what you set alongside what — these movements carry information that conscious intention cannot produce.

Digital collage in Procreate extends this practice into a fluid, layered medium — one that allows for transparency, superimposition, the coexistence of incompatible worlds in a single image. The unconscious does not observe the rules of physical space. Neither does the digital collage.

The Programme · 4 Sessions

A journey in four encounters

Each session is approximately three hours. The sessions are live, 1:1, conducted via Zoom, and recorded — so the work can be revisited. Individual elements for collage exercises are sent by email in advance.

Foundations — Entering the Territory

Introduction to digital collage and Procreate. Layout, basic settings, layers and blending. First exercises: inserting and transforming images, colour, brushes, texture. First collage exercise.

Technical + Symbolic Foundation

Deepening — The Image Emerges

Clarification and practical exercises building on Session 1. Second collage exercise — the image begins to speak with more confidence. Questions that arose between sessions are received and worked through.

Practice + Integration

The Symbol Listens — Contemplation & Writing

Third collage exercise with a pre-selected base element and free composition. Introduction to symbolic listening: contemplation of the created image and reflective writing in dialogue with what has emerged.

Working with a Dream — The Full Arc

Contact with dream material. Selection of images in resonance with the dream. Preparation of the dream's body. Construction of the collage — dialogue between fragments, colour, and rhythm. Symbolic listening: contemplation and reflective writing on the created image.
